SIZE 12 AND READY TO ROCK BY MEG CABOT: A REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

 GIVEAWAY ENDED
SIZE 12 AND READY TO ROCK
A Heather Wells Mystery
BY MEG CABOT

ABOUT THE BOOK:
After dallying with sexy vampires and ingeniously reinterpreting the Dracula legend (Insatiable, Overbite), #1 New York Times bestseller Meg Cabot is ready to rock ’n’ roll once more with Heather Wells. The un-petite assistant New York City college dorm director and sometime sleuth is back in Size 12 and Ready to Rock—a delectable comedy mystery that proves once more that the much beloved author of The Princess Diaries rules in the realm of grown-up women’s fiction as well. There’s romance, treachery, merry mayhem and music—just the ticket for readers who like to rock out on the hip contemporary singleton fiction of Sophie Kinsella, Jennifer Weiner, and Jane Green.

Summer break . . . and the livin' ain't easy!

Just because the students at New York College have flown the coop doesn't mean assistant residence hall director Heather Wells can relax. Fischer Hall is busier than ever, filled with squealing thirteen- and fourteen-year-old girls attending the first ever Tania Trace Teen Rock Camp, hosted by pop sensation Tania Trace herself—who just happens to be newly married to Heather's ex-boyfriend, heartthrob Jordan Cartwright. But the real headache begins when the producer of a reality TV show starring Tania winds up dead . . . and it's clear that the star was the intended victim.

Grant Cartwright, head of Cartwright Records, wants to keep his daughter-in-law (and his highest-earning performer) alive. So he hires his oldest son, black sheep of the family and private investigator Cooper Cartwright—who just happens to be Heather's new fiancé. Heather should leave the detecting to Cooper. But with a dorm full of hysterical mini-divas-in-training, she can't help but get involved. And after Tania shares a really shocking secret with her, this reality suddenly becomes more dangerously real than anyone ever anticipated.

 ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Meg Cabot is a #1 New York Times bestselling author of books for both adults and tweens/teens.

Born and raised in Bloomington, Indiana, Meg also lived in Grenoble, France, and Carmel, California (the setting for her bestselling Mediator series) before moving to New York City after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Indiana University.

After working for ten years as an assistant residence hall director at New York University (an experience from which she occasionally draws inspiration for her Heather Wells mystery series—two new books in the series will be out in 2012 and 2013), Meg wrote the Princess Diaries series, which was made into two hit movies by Disney, sold more than 16 million copies, and has been translated into 38 languages.

Meg also wrote the 1-800-Where-R-You? series (which has been reprinted under the title Vanished and was made into the Lifetime series called Missing), as well as numerous other award-winning, bestselling stand-alone books and series, including
All-American Girl and Avalon High (on which an original Disney Channel movie was based), and several books told entirely in e-mails and text messages (Boy Next Door / Boy Meets Girl / Every Boy’s Got One).

Meg’s newest series include the tween hit Allie Finkle’s Rules for Girls, the YA trilogy Airhead, and
Abandon, the first book in a new paranormal series for young adult readers (the sequel, Underworld, will be in US stores in spring 2012).
Insatiable, Meg’s first paranormal romance for adult readers, was followed by a sequel, Overbite, in July 2011.

Meg Cabot (her last name rhymes with habit, as in “her books can be habit forming”) currently lives in Key West with her husband and two cats.

MY THOUGHTS/REVIEW:
Meg Cabot’s latest good time novel is SIZE 12 AND READY TO ROCK and the fourth in her Heather Wells cozy mystery series. Heather is an extremely delightful character who at one time was a pop star, but now works at Fischer Hall at New York College as an assistant residence director.  She was able to shift from fame to everyday life very well and especially enjoys her job because it also allows her to take classes at no cost at the school. The hall is normally closed over the summer, but has opened to house a group of teens to attend Tania Trace's Rock Camp. This camp experience allows the 50 teenage girls in attendance to learn to express themselves through the performing arts.

Heather has a boyfriend, Cooper Cartwright, who is a private investigator but the romance in the book is a minor storyline in comparison to the mystery theme. The book focuses much more on Heather doing her job of keeping the residents happy and especially safe. Several unexpected situations within the hall that are beyond Heather’s authority start things off in a rather wild way but Heather quickly gains control, especially of the girls. There had even been a shooting. It seems that someone is trying to get at Tania when instead Jared, her producer, is murdered. Heather investigates and finds that Tania has a secret in her past and she wants it to stay there! People are warned to be on the lookout for the killer making tensions rise and slight hysteria to ensue.

A sudden change to a new Dorm Director in Lisa Wu brings on more challenges to Heather but none like the fact that she still must find out who is trying to kill Tania Trace. At least Cooper is hired to protect Heather and watch out at the dormitory. Will Heather be able to keep Tania safe? What of everyone else? Heather is a good detective but this seems to be a monumental job. SIZE 12 AND READY TO GO is a perfect summer beach read and filled with the entertaining and moving writing we recognize as coming from the pen of Meg Cabot. With her well developed characters and appropriate dialogue, Cabot keeps things moving along and believable so that readers come away being entertained as well as now eagerly awaiting the next Heather Wells mystery.
