Jill Kargman is deathly afraid of clowns. And mimes. Wait, mimes are worse. She lives in New York City where she writes magazine articles and trashy novels and enjoys wrap sandwiches. She is the author of teen books Bittersweet Sixteen, Summer Intern, and Jet Set, plus some excellent grown-up books. And by grown-up books she doesn't mean porn; she means not young adult but plain old adult. Her articles have appeared in Vogue, Teen Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Town & Country, Travel + Leisure, Elle, Elle Décor, and a bunch of British magazines you've never seen. She went to Yale where she did not study writing and has three children who keep her young. And exhausted.

THE ROCK STAR IN SEAT 3A by Jill Kargman is a light, quick read with a fairly predictable plot and even a little shocking. Considering the main character, Hazel, drops everything to take off on an escapade with a rock star, one might think this is more summer chick-lit than they care to read. BUT, rethink that because Kargman has written the characters to not only be entertaining but also developed them to elicit readers’ emotions and inner fantasy. THE ROCK STAR IN SEAT 3A is a fun read with much heart!
Hazel has a fun job doing what she loves to do…developing and working with video games. Her best contribution is found in the huge success of “Pimps N Ho’s”. She is on her way out to Los Angeles for the latest version’s release party. She will be leaving her boyfriend Wylie home as he has to work. He is a chef and Hazel is his biggest fan! With her job and this satisfying relationship, Hazel can’t ask for anything more. Before the trip, Hazel is with her gal pals celebrating her upcoming birthday. They play a Truth or Dare type game where she must answer a question about who she would have sex with IF she had a “pass” from her partner. Her immediate answer is Finn Schiller, the lead singer with a group called The Void.
As I said, the plot is predictable and on Hazel’s flight to Los Angeles, who do you think her seatmate is when she gets bumped up to First Class? Right you are, Finn Schiller! But here is where Kargman is at her best as she describes Hazel and Finn meeting and his being what appears to be a really, adorable but most importantly, nice guy. Knowing that Wylie is soon to propose, Hazel takes a leap of faith when Finn offers for her to take off and tour with him. Of course, Hazel takes this one time opportunity and off they go on tour with good music and even better sex.
Finn and Hazel are a great couple and he is really good to her, and for her. They have such fun together! The perplexing dilemma for readers, and Hazel, is who to choose because both Wylie and Finn are great guys. In the end, you can probably guess who Hazel winds up choosing. Best of all is that Hazel remains the same kind of funny character who we would all like to have as a friend. THE ROCK STAR IN SEAT 3A once again shows why Jill Kargman has a growing fan base with her delightful books and enjoyable characters.
