LET'S GET COZY! BLOOD BATH AND BEYOND: A PREVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

Posted on 9:01 PM by Unknown
GIVEAWAY ENDED
BLOOD BATH AND BEYOND
An Immortality Bites Mystery
BY MICHELLE ROWEN

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Sarah Dearly is adjusting to life as a fledgling vampire, satisfying her cravings at vampire-friendly blood banks. But when her fiancĂ© Thierry takes a job with the Ring—the secret council in charge of keeping vampires in line—Sarah’s about to get more than a taste of danger…

Being engaged to a centuries-old master vampire can be challenging—especially when he takes a job with the Ring. Thierry’s in for fifty years of nonstop travel and deadly risk. It’s enough to make any woman reconsider the wedding…any woman except Sarah, that is.

Traveling with him to Las Vegas for his first assignment, they encounter a child beauty pageant contestant from hell, as well as a vampire serial killer leaving victims drained of blood, potentially exposing the existence of vampires to the whole world. But when Thierry’s truly ancient history comes back to haunt him, and he’s accused of a crime he didn’t commit, it’s up to Sarah to clear his name before their immortal lives come to an end.

CREEP and FREAK! TWO NEW JENNIFER HILLIER BOOKS: A PREVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

Posted on 9:01 PM by Unknown

GIVEAWAY ENDED
JENNIFER HILLIER
 DOUBLE THRILLERS
CREEP
and
FREAK
ABOUT THE BOOKS:
CREEP:
If he can’t have her . . .
Dr. Sheila Tao is a professor of psychology. An expert in human behavior. And when she began an affair with sexy, charming graduate student Ethan Wolfe, she knew she was playing with fire. Consumed by lust when they were together, riddled with guilt when they weren’t, she knows the three-month fling with her teaching assistant has to end. After all, she’s finally engaged to a kind and loving investment banker who adores her, and she’s taking control of her life. But when she attempts to end the affair, Ethan Wolfe won’t let her walk away.

. . . no one else can.
Ethan has plans for Sheila, plans that involve posting a sex video that would surely get her fired and destroy her prestigious career. Plans to make her pay for rejecting him. And as she attempts to counter his every threatening move without her colleagues or her fiancĂ© discovering her most intimate secrets, a shattering crime rocks Puget Sound State University: a female student, a star athlete, is found stabbed to death. Someone is raising the stakes of violence, sex, and blackmail . . . and before she knows it, Sheila is caught in a terrifying cat-and-mouse game with the lover she couldn’t resist—who is now the monster who won’t let her go.

FREAK:
Sitting alone in a maximum-security prison cell, Abby Maddox is a celebrity. Her claim to fame is the envy of every freak on the outside: she’s the former lover of Ethan Wolfe, the killer who left more than a dozen dead women in his wake and nearly added Puget Sound State professor Sheila Tao to the tally. Now Abby, serving a nine-year sentence for slashing a police officer’s throat in a moment of rage, has little human contact—save for the letters that pour in from demented fans, lunatics, and creeps. But a new wave of murders has given Abby a possible chance for a plea bargain—because this killer has been sending her love letters, and carving a message on the bodies of the victims: Free Abby Maddox.

Jerry Isaac will never forget the attack—or his attacker. The hideous scarring and tortured speech are daily reminders that the one-time Seattle PD officer, now a private investigator, is just lucky to be alive. Abby Maddox deserves to rot in jail—forever, as far as Jerry’s concerned. But she alone may possess crucial evidence—letters from this newest killer—that could crack open the disturbing case. With the help of Professor Sheila Tao, seasoned police detective Mike Torrance, and intuitive criminology student Danny Mercy, Jerry must coax the shattering truth from isolated, dangerous Abby Maddox. Can he put the pieces together before Abby’s number one fan takes another life in the name of a killer’s perverted idea of justice?

ARE YOU LISTENING? A HUNDRED FLOWERS: A PREVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

Posted on 9:00 PM by Unknown

WELCOME TO BOOKIN' WITH BINGO'S"
ARE YOU LISTENING? DAY"
I AM EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE TODAY'S
AUDIO BOOK CHOICE....
GIVEAWAY ENDED
A HUNDRED FLOWERS
BY GAIL TSUKIYAMA
ABOUT THE BOOK:
A powerful new novel about an ordinary family facing extraordinary times at the start of the Chinese Cultural Revolution...

China, 1957. Chairman Mao has declared a new openness in society: “Let a hundred flowers bloom; let a hundred schools of thought contend.” Many intellectuals fear it is only a trick, and Kai Ying’s husband, Sheng, a teacher, has promised not to jeopardize their safety or that of their young son, Tao. But one July morning, just before his sixth birthday, Tao watches helplessly as Sheng is dragged away for writing a letter criticizing the Communist Party and sent to a labor camp for “reeducation.”

A year later, still missing his father desperately, Tao climbs to the top of the hundred-year-old kapok tree in front of their home, wanting to see the mountain peaks in the distance. But Tao slips and tumbles thirty feet to the courtyard below, badly breaking his leg.

As Kai Ying struggles to hold her small family together in the face of this shattering reminder of her husband’s absence, other members of the household must face their own guilty secrets and strive to find peace in a world where the old sense of order is falling. Once again, Tsukiyama brings us a powerfully moving story of ordinary people facing extraordinary circumstances with grace and courage.
AN EXCERPT FROM A HUNDRED FLOWERS:
Tao

The courtyard was still quiet so early in the morning, the neighborhood just waking as Neighbor Lau’s rooster began to crow. The air was already warm, a taste of the heat and humidity that would be unbearable by midday. Seven-year-old Tao knew he had little time to climb the kapok tree before he’d be discovered. He glanced down at the gnarled roots of the tree and felt strangely comforted, a reminder of the crooked ginger roots his ma ma sliced and boiled into strong teas for her headaches, or when his ba ba complained of indigestion.

Tao wasn’t afraid as he shimmied up the kapok tree’s slender trunk toward the broad branches, avoiding thorns on the spiny offshoots of the same tree his father had climbed as a boy, his heart thumping in excitement at the idea of seeing White Cloud Mountain from up so high. From the time he was two, his father would lift him up to look out his bedroom window, or from the second-floor balcony, as they searched for the mountain in the far distance. His ba ba always told him that if he looked hard enough, he could see all of Guangzhou and as far away as White Cloud Mountain on a clear day. With its thirty peaks, the mountain was a magical place for him, and his eyes watered with an effort to glimpse just a shadow of an elusive peak.

Tao could still feel the rough stubble of his father’s cheek against his, like the scratchy military blankets they used at school during naptime when he was younger. But last July, just before his sixth birthday, everything changed.

LET'S GET COZY! WHEN THE COOKIE CRUMBLES: A PREVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

Posted on 9:01 PM by Unknown
 GIVEAWAY ENDED
WHEN THE COOKIE CRUMBLES
A Cookie Cutter Shop Mystery
BY VIRGINIA LOWELL
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Olivia Greyson is the proud owner of The Gingerbread House--a quaint shop that specializes in all things cookie--and her best friend, Maddie, is her sidekick, baking up scrumptious treats for their parties. But the real-life version of their magnificent gingerbread house is about to crumble to pieces...

Tensions are running high as Chatterley Heights' 250th birthday celebration approaches, and Olivia and Maddie are working feverishly to finish a gingerbread house modeled after the famous Chatterley Mansion. When Paine Chatterley, presumed to be dead, shows up to claim his father's house, the town gossips are driven into a tizzy. And when he refuses to allow visitors to tour the mansion during the celebration, all the preparations seem for naught.

Then Paine is found lifeless in the bathtub, his wife hysterical and their precious heirlooms destroyed. The hidden lives of the prestigious Chatterley family members begin to surface, and Olivia must unravel their dark past. As it turns out, the town's history isn't all that sweet...
AN INTERESTING LOOK AT THE AUTHOR:
In a pre-holiday interview with author Virginia Lowell, she was asked some quick fire questions on her likes and thoughts on special things about the Christmas time of the year. Perhaps reading this will help you to know more about her. This information was taken from a 2011 Seattle PI article. You can go HERE to see it in its entirety.
Favorite Holiday tradition?
Carols. Cookies. Eggnog with rum. Remembering the history of our ornaments. I can't pick just one!
Favorite childhood toy?
A pseudo-Barbie doll with clothes my mom made.
Favorite childhood game?
"I Doubt It" because it encouraged making things up. Okay, lying. Is that so wrong?
Snowball fight or making snow families?
Snow ball fight, definitely. With a snow fort and lots of snow ammo.
Sleigh rides, sledding or skiing?
Sleigh rides. I wouldn't want to hurt myself.
Favorite Holiday song?
"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" with the original words sung by Judy Garland in Meet Me in St. Louis.
Favorite holiday movie?
A Christmas Story, with Darren McGavin. It's hilarious!
Favorite holiday story to read?
The Gift of the Magi
Snow on holiday eve or just a chill in the air?
Snow! The fluffy kind, all day.
Most memorable holiday memory?
The year my dad tried to convince my sister and me to take a break from opening gifts, to stretch out the pleasure. We lasted maybe fifteen minutes.
Did you eat popcorn balls as a kid? If you did, do you still?
Nope. It's always been cookies for me.
Real tree or artificial? Green or white?
I'm horribly allergic to real trees, so we have a green artificial tree. It's great! We can bend the branches to best display our ornaments.
What do you do on holiday eve?
Egg nog and rum in front of the fire. With cats on our laps.
What are your holiday plans this year?
Stay home with my husband and two cats.
What's the one holiday dish your family can't go without?
Dressing with sausage. It's the worst thing I could do for my arteries, but hey, who wants to live forever?
Please share a Holiday recipe.
Dressing with sausage, of course. It's easy: Use Pepperidge Farm dressing, follow the directions, and add one pound cooked, loose sausage, preferably spicy. Then bake for about 20 minutes to lightly brown the top. It's bad for you. Enjoy!
Holiday party tip?
We just gave one, so I'd say "Don't do it!" But if you must, invite fun people and serve plenty of wine and, of course, cookies.
Favorite holiday decoration?
Two porcelain elves from my childhood.
Please share some magical holiday memories?
As a kid, I went caroling with the kids from my neighborhood. At each home, we were greeted with a treat -- hot chocolate, cookies, candy....
Wrap, gift bag or bow & go?
Wrap! I love to wrap gifts and use lots of ribbon.
Gifts or gift cards?
Gifts. I like to match the gift to the person. Of course, my nieces love gift cards, so that's what I give them!
Do you eat fruitcake?
Anyone who hates fruitcake has not tasted my brother-in-law's fruitcake. He uses lots of candied fruit, and his secret is rum. He pours it over his fruitcakes with abandon until they are really, um, moist.
Do you head to the movies on the 25th?
We've thought about it, but it would mean leaving home and the fire.
What's in your stocking? *wink*
We usually run out of time before we get to filling stockings.
What do you want in your stocking? *saucy wink aka swink*
Ooh, a gift certificate for a one-hour massage. Therapeutic, of course. What did you think I meant?
Do you head out on the 26th into the madness to exchange or shop for anything?
Not a chance. I'm petite; I might be trampled.
