A Faith Fairchild Mystery
BY KATHERINE HALL PAGE
ABOUT THE BOOK:
It's 1990, and Faith Sibley is a single young woman leading a glamorous life in New York City. She has good friends, a cozy apartment, and her own flourishing catering business, Have Faith. Then, at a catering event, she meets the handsome, charming Reverend Thomas Fairchild. A daughter and granddaughter of clergymen, Faith has sworn to avoid a parish's fishbowl existence. But it's love at first sight, and before she knows it her life is changing drastically.
To begin with, she's beckoned north to chilly New England to visit her future residence and prospective in-laws, not all of whom welcome her with open arms. Thankfully, back home she has her adoring great-uncle Sky to rely on, even if his much younger wife has always struck Faith as slightly odd. For the ceremony Uncle Sky has offered up the use of his mansion on Long Island, which would be the perfect location if only the brickwork wasn't suspiciously falling off the roof.
Her path to the altar is made even rockier when Faith faces two other baffling mysteries. Her new assistant, Francesca, appears to be hiding a family secret with roots in Italy. Then Faith's sister, Hope, becomes a target. Who could be plotting to derail her high-stakes financial career?
In spite of being overwhelmed by her decision to leave her home in the Big Apple and the multitude of tasks involved in getting married, Faith has no doubts about being married to her beloved Tom. But someone out there is dead set on making sure that she doesn't reach the altar. Before it's too late, she needs to figure out who is trying to sabotage the wedding—by eliminating the bride!

“Despite the fact that this is a murder mystery...the narrative warms with a sweetness rarely found in the genre. And it’s more rare and more pleasurable because this quality doesn’t resolve into a high-fructose gooey glob.”— Asbury Park Press
“Fans of the Faith Fairchild series will probably be over the moon for this prequel that lovingly details how Faith met her husband . . . and then follows every calorie, fabric and gift of her glamorous upper-crust wedding preparations.”— Charlotte Observer

ONE RECIPE FROM THE BODY IN THE BOUDOIR:
VEGGIE MAC 'N CHEESE
- 6 ounces sharp cheddar cheese
- 2 red bell peppers
- 3 large garlic cloves
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika (preferably smoked)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 6 ounces penne, ziti or elbow macaroni
- 5 cups cauliflower florets
Shred the cheese and set aside. Reserve 1/4 cup to sprinkle on top.
Dice the peppers, mince the peeled garlic cloves, and place in a saucepan with the 1/2 cup of water. Bring to a boil and lower to simmer until the vegetables are very soft, about 15 minutes.

Boil water for the pasta.
Steam the cauliflower and when it is soft, transfer it to a bowl and mash roughly—you want some texture.
Cook the pasta according to the directions on the package and in the meantime place the contents of the saucepan, the butter and milk in a food processor or blender. Pulse until smooth.
Add the mixture to the cauliflower along with the shredded cheese, paprika, and salt.
Drain the pasta and fold it into the sauce. Stir well so all the pasta is coated.
Pour it into a casserole and top with the reserved cheese. Bake in a preheated 350 ° oven until nicely browned and bubbling. The red peppers give the sauce a bright color and the smoked paprika, widely used in Mediterranean cooking, adds a subtle flavor as well as more color.

Serves six.
You may also serve this sauce over pasta without baking.
MY THOUGHTS/REVIEW:
Katherine Hall Page’s 20th Faith Fairchild mystery, THE BODY IN THE BOUDOIR, starts out by taking readers along on Faith and Tom’s second honeymoon to Italy. During the flight, Faith thinks back on all that led up to her marriage in the 1990’s to Rev. Tom Fairchild. As the owner of the Have Faith catering company, Faith Sibley met Tom at an event she had done the work on. Their tumultuous courtship took them both by surprise and things moved at a fast pace. Faith also shivers as she remembers how many roadblocks seemed destined to derail their nuptials and even how someone appeared to be making attempts on Faith’s life!
Everyone from Faith’s sister to her soon to be sister-in-law were causing the couple trouble. Tom’s judgmental relatives and friends in Massachusetts as well as Faith’s own personal assistant seemed to have an agenda in cancelling this wedding. But things got really bad when there were several attempts on Faith’s life and it made them realize that just staying alive might be hard to do. Did all that come together to tear Faith and Tom apart? Obviously not, as we read about all this in the flashback, however, all these interlocking stories help to make THE BODY IN THE BOUDOIR the total package when it comes to a cozy mystery, even including recipes and menus along with the charm of its characters.
