TULLE DEATH DO US PART
 A Vintage Magic Mystery
BY ANNETTE BLAIR

ABOUT THE BOOK:
National bestselling author Annette Blair’s “fast-paced, fascinating” (Fresh Fiction) Vintage Magic series continues as clothing boutique owner Madeira Cutler takes on a murder from the past that won’t stay dead...

Maddie’s love of classic fashion has made her Vintage Magic boutique a success—even if the visions she experiences when touching certain items often lead her into trouble. Decades ago, at a Mystic Country Club costume ball, a secret scavenger hunt ended in an unexplained death, hastily concealed.

Now, Maddie’s invited to participate in a similar anniversary event: but one touch of the vintage petticoat used to hide evidence of the original crime hurtles Maddie into a scavenger hunt of her own. She must find missing petticoat pieces and re-stitch the clues it reveals...to expose a killer!

AN EXCERPT FROM TULLE DEATH DO US PART:
Last night, I bedazzled a hard hat. Crystals, and sequins, and bling—Oh my.

What else to wear to a roof-raising with black tuxedo-cut Hilfiger overalls, a tux shirt, and a pair of black velvet Belgian loafers? I mean, my Vintage Magic dress shop is now a construction zone. I have to be practical and fashion conscious.

Of course the unseasonably mild February weather, even for so short a jaunt outdoors, called for a mohair scarf from the English Lake district, and kid gloves, both in maize and neutral.

According to family legend, I’ve been a fashionista since they cut the cord, anointed me in sweet baby oil, and wrapped me in pink to match the bow in my hair. Then I grew up and became . . . well . . . a fashionista, the designing kind. Take that any way you like. I do.

I sell designer vintage classics, preferably haute couture, and personally design fashion forward one-of-a-kind originals. Designing also applies to the way I deal with the charming legacy bequeathed to me by my late mother, a discovery with—witch—I try daily to make a certain peace. That gift is not limited to “listening” to whatever vintage fashions “speak to me” and using those visions to help solve crimes, often as antique as my sources.

My name is Madeira Cutler, but I prefer Mad or Maddie.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Annette Blair's paranormal romantic comedies owe their beginnings to a root canal and a reluctant trip to Salem Massachusetts. Though she had once proclaimed she'd never write a contemporary, she stumbled into the serendipitous role of ‘Accidental Witch Writer’ on that trip. Funny how she managed to eat her words even with an aching jaw. Magic or destiny, Annette's Bewitching Romantic Comedies became her first National Bestsellers.

SEX AND THE PSYCHIC WITCH and GONE WITH THE WITCH, the first and second in her Triplet Witch Trilogy, became Barnes & Noble, Borders and Amazon Bestsellers, and topped the Nielsen BookScan bestseller list as well. NEVER BEEN WITCHED, third in the series will be released on February 3, 2009.

With over twenty-two novels published or contracted to date, Annette's work has garnered a Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice Nomination, multiple HOLT Medallion nominations, Booksellers Best Awards, LORIES Awards, Laurel Wreath Awards, Blue Boa Awards of Excellence, Aspen Gold Awards, RIO Awards, Southern Magic, More than Magic, Orange Rose, Winter Rose, PRISM, and Beacon Awards of Excellence. Annette's been a Golden Leaf Award Finalist, a Preditors and Editors Best Book nominee, an Anne-Bonney Readers’ Choice Award Winner, a Laurie Finalist, a Write Touch Readers' Choice Award double winner, a Colorado Award of Excellence Finalist, a Desert Rose Golden Quill Award finalist, and a National Readers' Choice Award Finalist. SEX AND THE PSYCHIC WITCH is currently an Orange County Book Buyer's Best Award Finalist.

THE CHRONICLES OF EGG: DEADWEATHER AND SUNRISE! A PREVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

Posted on 9:00 PM by Unknown
GIVEAWAY ENDED
THE CHRONICLES OF EGG:
DEADWEATHER AND SUNRISE
BY GEOFF RODKEY

ABOUT THE BOOK:
A stunning middle-grade debut--full of heart, humor, and nonstop action!

It's tough to be thirteen, especially when somebody's trying to kill you.

Not that Egg's life was ever easy, growing up on sweaty, pirate-infested Deadweather Island with no company except an incompetent tutor and a pair of unusually violent siblings who hate his guts.

But when Egg's father hustles their family off on a mysterious errand to fabulously wealthy Sunrise Island, then disappears with the siblings in a freak accident, Egg finds himself a long-term guest at the mansion of the glamorous Pembroke family and their beautiful, sharp-tongued daughter Millicent. Finally, life seems perfect.

Until someone tries to throw him off a cliff.

Suddenly, Egg's running for his life in a bewildering world of cutthroat pirates, villainous businessmen, and strange Native legends. The only people who can help him sort out the mystery of why he's been marked for death are Millicent and a one-handed, possibly deranged cabin boy.

Come along for the ride. You'll be glad you did.

AN EXCERPT FROM DEADWEATHER AND SUNRISE:
Chapter 1

Nobody lived on Deadweather but us and the pirates. It wasn’t hard to understand why. For one thing, the weather was atrocious. Eleven months out of twelve, it was brutally hot and humid, with no wind at all, so on a bad day the air felt like a hot, soggy blanket smothering you from all sides.

And the other month was September, which meant hurricanes.

Then there was the volcano. It hadn’t actually blown in ages, but it belched smoke and shook the earth enough to scare away anybody who might’ve overlooked the pirates and the weather. The only reason it didn’t scare me, even though plenty of things do, was because I’d been born and raised halfway up its slope and didn’t know any different.

That’s how I felt about the pirates, too. There were two kinds on Deadweather: the normal ones, who hung around down in Port Scratch, drinking and getting into knife fights whenever they weren’t off raiding Cartager gold ships; and the busted-down, broken ones, who’d lost too many limbs or eyes or organs to crew a ship, but not enough to kill them outright.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR (TAKEN FROM HIS WEBSITE "BIO"):
Hi! I’m Geoff Rodkey. I write things for a living: mostly books, movies, and TV shows…but I’ve also written for magazines, newspapers, video games, web sites, standup comedians, and even two United States Senators. Although at least one of them would prefer that I don’t mention that.

I’m currently at work on the final book in my middle grade adventure-comedy-mystery-coming-of-age trilogy, The Chronicles of Egg. The first two installments, Deadweather and Sunrise and New Lands, are about as much fun as you can have between two covers of a book, and I’m not just saying that because I wrote them.

But as awesome as the Egg books are, I’m probably better known for my movies – Daddy Day Care, RV, The Shaggy Dog…

Although if you’re under twelve years old, I suspect you’re more familiar with a Disney Channel TV movie I wrote called Good Luck Charlie, It’s Christmas…

And if you’re over thirty-five, it might actually be the “Cow Tipping” episode of MTV’s Beavis and Butt-head…

Or, if you’re a political junkie, you might have caught my brief, Emmy-nominated tenure as a co-writer of the “Strange Bedfellows” segments on Comedy’s Central’s Politically Incorrect, featuring Al Franken and Arianna Huffington (this was in 1996, way back when Arianna was still a Republican).

And if you went to Freeport High School in Freeport, Illinois between 1986 and 1988, I think you’ll agree with me that some of the best things I ever wrote were the humor pieces I published in our school newspaper, the Pretz News, which is where I got my start as a writer.

Pretz News might seem like an odd name, but it’s not nearly as odd as our school mascot. We were the Freeport Pretzels.
Why? I have no idea. It’s kind of cute, I guess. But it definitely doesn’t intimidate rival sports teams.

Want to know more? (Not about pretzels, but about the things I’ve written?) Click HERE for an interview about the Egg books with kidlit blogger Monica Edinger.

PRAISE FOR DEADWEATHER AND SUNRISE:
Amazon Best Books of the Year 2012

Chicago Public Library Best of the Best 2012

“This is a rip-roaring debut… I highly recommend you grab a copy… The best way I can describe it is Lemony Snicket meets Pirates of the Caribbean, with a sprinkling of Tom Sawyer for good measure.”
—RICK RIORDAN, New York Times bestselling author of the Percy Jackson series

“. . . a high-seas adventure in the grandest tradition, featuring epic maritime battles, elusive hidden treasures, tender romance, and of course, pirates—lots and lots of pirates. The fast-paced swashbuckling will surely satisfy fans of adventure, but it's really Egg's narration that makes this pirate story rise above its counterparts. Wittily observant and self-deprecating, Egg relays the series of absurd events that precede his escape from Deadweather with a fair amount of humor, while his decision to avenge the deaths of his family—despite their mistreatment of him—lends the tale a certain nobility.”
--STARRED REVIEW FROM BCCB

“What a wonderful hybrid plot: islands, buried treasure, a lad avenging violence against his family, sea voyages, tourist cruises, real pirates, fake pirates for the tourist trade, and leftover pirates, too maimed for sea work. . . . Egg's flat, fatalistic, practical and hilarious narrative tone keeps this wild profusion of plot elements (and island hopping) in balance in this, Book 1, of "The Chronicles of Egg," making a reader look forward to more.”
--THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE

“Self-deprecating and funny, Egg’s first-person account is compelling, and the dialogue and vivid setting, as well as the full cast of quirky characters, make it easy to get lost in this adventure.”
--KIRKUS REVIEWS

“In this rousing debut novel . . . Egg’s struggle to stay alive takes him from one death-defying scenario to the next with breakneck speed … the overall effect is more comedic than terrifying, as Rodkey combines humor and adventure.”
--PUBLISHERS WEEKLY

“[O]ur hero’s first-person sassiness, smarts, and romantic frustration . . . are absolutely entertaining. Along with some good and gory descriptions (after all, pirates really aren’t that nice), this introduction to the Chronicles of Egg series is pure fun.”

HELP FOR THE HAUNTED
BY JOHN SEARLES

ABOUT THE BOOK:
TWO SISTERS. ONE DARK SECRET.
Fifteen-year-old Sylvie Mason isn’t sure who murdered her parents that winter night, but she knows she can’t stop looking until she knows the truth. Sylvie pursues the mystery, moving closer to the knowledge of what occurred that night, as she comes to terms with her family’s past and uncovers secrets that have haunted them for years.

Rose, Sylvie’s sister, seems to have a secret of her own – did she murder her own parents?

A frightening and mysterious ghost story that you won’t be able to put down until you’re done...

It begins with a call one snowy February night. Lying in her bed, young Sylvie Mason overhears her parents on the phone across the hall. This is not the first late-night call they have received, since her mother and father have an uncommon occupation: helping "haunted souls" find peace. And yet something in Sylvie senses that this call is different from the others, especially when they are lured to the old church on the outskirts of town. Once there, her parents disappear, one after the other, behind the church's red door, leaving Sylvie alone in the car. Not long after, she drifts off to sleep, only to wake to the sound of gunfire.

As the story weaves back and forth through the years leading up to that night and the months following, the ever-inquisitive Sylvie searches for answers and uncovers secrets that have haunted her family for years.

Capturing the vivid eeriness of Stephen King's works and the quirky tenderness of John Irving's novels, Help for the Haunted is told in the captivating voice of a young heroine who is determined to discover the truth about what happened on that winter night.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
John Searles is the author of the national bestsellers Boy Still Missing and Strange but True. He frequently appears as a book critic on NBC's Today show and CBS's The Early Show. He lives in New York City and can be found on Facebook and also on Twitter @searlesbooks.

PRAISE FOR HELP FOR THE HAUNTED:
“A quickly paced and boldly rendered ghost story, Searles’s dark novel about a young girl haunted by the murder of her parents had me up reading all night. And checking the doors. I found it impossible to put down.”— Sara Gruen, bestselling author of Water for Elephants and Ape House

“Wonderful...A coming of age tale that is poignant and touching...and will scare the living hell out of you. I loved every page of this novel: I loved the sisters and the story and the page-turning mystery. I just may never go downstairs into my basement again.”
— Chris Bohjalian, bestselling author of Midwives and The Light in the Ruins

“I was completely consumed by Help for the Haunted; I read it in one sitting. I just can’t decide what I loved the most: its perfectly pitched teenage narrator; the ghost story that kept me riveted; the thriller that made me say, Oh, just one more chapter.”
— Jodi Picoult, New York Times-bestselling author of Lone Wolf and The Storyteller

“This is edge-of-your-seat reading of a very high quality, and, be warned, it is seriously spine-tingling.”
— Robert Goolrick, bestselling author of A Reliable Wife

Searles successfuly jumps back and forth in time to let these stories unfold, sewing clues and strange details along hte way...A somber, well-paced journey, wrappe din a mysery, that will keep readers guessing until the revealing conclusion.
— Kirkus Reviews

“Searles expertly manages his cleverly conceived plotline as he alternately withholds and doles out key information in tantalizing fashion... Superlative storytelling.”
— Booklist (starred review)

“A dazzling, dark portrait of a troubled family beset by the supernatural. Searles ratchets up the tension with every passing chapter, and delivers authentic and well-earned scares--all written through the lens of a lonely teenager searching for answers. The result is a novel both frightening and beautiful.”
— Gillian Flynn

ARE YOU LISTENING? THE KING'S DECEPTION: A REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

WELCOME TO BOOKIN' WITH BINGO'S"
ARE YOU LISTENING? DAY"
I AM EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE TODAY'S
AUDIO BOOK CHOICE....
GIVEAWAY ENDED
THE KING’S DECEPTION
A Novel
BY STEVE BERRY
READ BY SCOTT BRICK

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Cotton Malone is back! Steve Berry’s new international adventure blends gripping contemporary political intrigue, Tudor treachery, and high-octane thrills into one riveting novel of suspense.

Cotton Malone and his fifteen-year-old son, Gary, are headed to Europe. As a favor to his former boss at the Justice Department, Malone agrees to escort a teenage fugitive back to England. But after he is greeted at gunpoint in London, both the fugitive and Gary disappear, and Malone learns that he’s stumbled into a high-stakes diplomatic showdown—an international incident fueled by geopolitical gamesmanship and shocking Tudor secrets.

At its heart is the Libyan terrorist convicted of bombing Pan Am Flight 103, who is set to be released by Scottish authorities for “humanitarian reasons.” An outraged American government objects, but nothing can persuade the British to intervene.

Except, perhaps, Operation King’s Deception.

Run by the CIA, the operation aims to solve a centuries-old mystery, one that could rock Great Britain to its royal foundations.

Blake Antrim, the CIA operative in charge of King’s Deception, is hunting for the spark that could rekindle a most dangerous fire, the one thing that every Irish national has sought for generations: a legal reason why the English must leave Northern Ireland. The answer is a long-buried secret that calls into question the legitimacy of the entire forty-five-year reign of Elizabeth I, the last Tudor monarch, who completed the conquest of Ireland and seized much of its land. But Antrim also has a more personal agenda, a twisted game of revenge in which Gary is a pawn. With assassins, traitors, spies, and dangerous disciples of a secret society closing in, Malone is caught in a lethal bind. To save Gary he must play one treacherous player against another—and only by uncovering the incredible truth can he hope to prevent the shattering consequences of the King’s Deception. - See more at: http://www.randomhouse.com/audio/catalog/display.php?isbn=9780449009000#sthash.W4NyzKWZ.dpuf

AN EXCERPT FROM THE KING'S DECEPTION:
One

London
Friday, November 21
6:25 pm

Cotton Malone stepped up to the Customs window at Heathrow Airport and presented two passports—his own and his son Gary’s. Positioned between himself and the glass-enclosed counter, however, stood a problem.

Fifteen-year-old Ian Dunne.

“This one doesn’t have a passport,” he told the attendant, then explained who he was and what he was doing. A brief call to somebody led to verbal approval for Ian to reenter the country.

Which didn’t surprise Malone.

He assumed that since the Central Intelligence Agency wanted the boy in England they’d make the necessary arrangements.

He was tired from the long flight, though he’d caught a few hours of sleep. His knee still hurt from the kick Ian had delivered in Atlanta, before trying to flee from that airport. Luckily, his own fifteen-year-old, Gary, had been quick to tackle the pesky Scot before he’d escaped the concourse.

Favors for friends.

Always a problem.

This one for his former boss, Stephanie Nelle, at the Magellan Billet.

It’s the CIA, she’d told him. Langley had called directly. Somehow they were aware Malone was in Georgia and wanted him to escort the boy back to London, handing him over to the Metropolitan Police. After that he and Gary could head on to Copenhagen. In return, they’d received first-class tickets all the way home to Denmark.

PRAISE FOR THE KING'S DECEPTION:
“[A] perfect blend of history and adventure . . . The history enhances the main narrative and gives it an added punch. . . . Pick up this new fast-paced book by Berry and have an excellent thrill ride while you also get a wonderfully enjoyable history lesson. Education has never been this much fun.”—The Huffington Post

“Steve Berry does what Dan Brown thought he did. [He combines] a love of history with global thriller action and creates books that are impossible to put down and even educational. . . . A perfect blend of history and action . . . perfect summer reading.”
—Crimespree Magazine

“Cotton Malone returns in a thriller that combines history and gunfire. . . . Readers old and new will enjoy The King’s Deception.”
—Associated Press

“A complex, rollicking forty-hour ride through a very dangerous and wild weekend in London where the betrayals collide with current events and the deceptions of hundreds of years ago, resulting in an explosive finish that no one who reads it will forget. . . . Berry is a wonderful guide as always, interweaving fascinating bits of history into the narrative. . . . I can’t give you a better endorsement for a book or an author.”
—Bookreporter

“There are more twists and turns in this plot than in a 1970s disco bar. Interspersed between the modern incidents of betrayals and counter-betrayals are numerous episodes of Tudor/Elizabethan history sure to ruffle the skirts of the most avid Tudor fan. With its great plot and interesting characters, this book is a real page-turner and an enjoyable read. Highly recommended.”
—Historical Novels Review

“Action interspersed with unbelievable shockers from the past . . . [Cotton Malone] continues to do battle with history and those who would kill to keep its secrets buried.”
—Library Journal

“All the elements of a Da Vinci Code adventure are in place [including] undeniably fascinating historical material.”
—Publishers Weekly

“Contemporary politics mixes with treachery from Tudor England for a novel filled with suspense. The detailed history of Tudor England will entrance fans of British historicals. The castles mentioned are real and worth a visit. There are assassins, traitors, spies and mystery surrounding Cotton and his son, Gary.”
—British Weekly

MY THOUGHTS/REVIEW:
THE KING’S DECEPTION is Steve Berry at his best…and then some! As a huge fan of Berry’s work and his Cotton Malone character, I found THE KING’S DECEPTION to be his finest effort by far. This Malone installment is very personal as it involves his son Gary and his ex-wife’s long kept secret. The narrative takes place during a whirlwind weekend set in London in which Malone initially is planning to only spend a few hours and then be on their way to spend Thanksgiving in Copenhagen with Gary‘s mother, Cotton‘s ex-wife. Cotton Malone being the nice guy he is, agreed to be a bodyguard for a young fugitive that the Justice Department needs returned to the authorities in London. Ian Dunne, the teenage thief, and Malone’s son, Gary, are hardly on British soil when they are kidnapped!

The story revolves around a flash drive with highly sensitive data on it that Ian Dunne stole and has in his possession. The information on this drive is invaluable to several powerful parties including England, Scotland, Libya, and the United States. Based on his extensive research, Berry recounts the old myth in which Elizabeth I was said to actually have been a male who was substituted for the real Elizabeth when she died suddenly in her early teens. Were this secret ever revealed, it would wreck havoc on the English and their place in history forever. In addition, with Scotland supposedly agreeing to release the Libyan terrorist convicted of bombing Pan Am Flight 103, they bring on the antagonism of the US Government while the British refuse to get involved on behalf of the United States.

Berry cleverly weaves actual history into THE KING’S DECEPTION and by including his “Writer’s Note” helps to support his thrilling narrative. Using short chapters that incorporate unpredictable twists and turns, adds to the suspense. A powerful cast of characters give credence to the spine-tingling action, and if you weren’t a Steve Berry fan before, you will be after you read/listen to THE KING’S DECEPTION.
