THE ORIGINAL 1982: A PREVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

Posted on 9:00 PM by Unknown
IN STORES TODAY! MAY 28th!
GIVEAWAY ENDED
THE ORIGINAL 1982
BY LORI CARSON

ABOUT THE BOOK:
The Original 1982 is the wise and memorable debut novel of love, regret, music, and motherhood, by singer and songwriter Lori Carson of the Golden Palominos.

It's 1982, and Lisa is twenty-four years old, a waitress, an aspiring singer-songwriter, and the girlfriend to a famous musician. That year, she makes a decision, almost without thinking about it.
But what would have happened if she had chosen differently? Thirty years later, haunted by regret, Lisa revisits her past to reimagine it.

Alternating between two very different possibilities, The Original 1982 is a novel about how the choices we make affect the people we become—and about how the people we are affect the choices we make.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Lori Carson is a singer-songwriter whose albums include Shelter, Where It Goes, Everything I Touch Runs Wild, and Another Year. A former member of the seminal band The Golden Palominos, she has contributed to the sound tracks of Bernardo Bertolucci's Stealing Beauty, Kathryn Bigelow's Strange Days, Keith Gordon's Waking the Dead, and others. The Original 1982 is her first novel.

To read more about the multi-talented Lori Carson, visit her website "Bio" HERE.

PRAISE FOR THE ORIGINAL 1982:
“Carson hasn’t abandoned music completely; all the musicality of nuanced emotion can be found in the distilled beauty of her delicate prose. The music world may be losing a voice of quietly impassioned grace, but the literary world has easily and fortunately gained one.”—PopMatters

“In this first novel, Carson, herself a singer-songwriter, commits her artistry to paper, creating a lyrical story of love, longing and acceptance.  Beautifully imagined and authentically told, the result is a deeply meaningful exploration of an often painful subject.”— Booklist

“A daring, thoughtful book -- delightfully unpretentious and full of love. THE ORIGINAL 1982 deftly explores the ways in which even what seem like the wrong choices can lead us in the right direction.”
— Alethea Black, author of I Knew You'd Be Lovely

“THE ORIGINAL 1982 follows one woman’s what if? through a captivating double narrative that keeps the reader hooked. I fell hard for both options, and for the wise and determined narrator, Lisa, and I couldn’t stop reading until the tender, touching end.”
— Jessica Anya Blau, author of The Wonder Bread Summer

“Carson writes about regret, desire, and most of all, love in its many forms with grace and sensitivity. This is a novel of deep sympathy and enormous heart, an impressive debut.”
— Christine Sneed, author of the novel Little Known Facts

LET'S GET COZY! FINAL SAIL: A PREVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

Posted on 9:00 PM by Unknown
GIVEAWAY ENDED
FINAL SAIL
A Dead-End Job Mystery
BY ELAINE VIETS
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Husband and wife PI team Helen Hawthorne and Phil Sagemont each have their hands full, but only Helen has to carry drink trays—as part of her latest undercover assignment....

To catch a jewel smuggler on a luxury yacht, Helen is posing as the ship’s new stewardess. But between serving drinks and scrubbing floors, she’s starting to miss dry land almost as much as she misses Phil.

Meanwhile, Phil is trying to catch a sexy gold digger who may have killed her elderly husband. Good thing Phil is a master of disguise, playing it cool as everything from an air-conditioning repairman to a Rastafarian. Helen and Phil help each other out whenever possible, but when Helen’s on her own on the high seas, she needs to watch her step—or she may wind up going from undercover to overboard....

AN EXCERPT FROM FINAL SAIL:
“That woman is murdering my father,” Violet Zerling said. “We’re sitting here while he’s dying. And you – you’re letting her get away with it.”

Violet Zerling jabbed an accusing finger at attorney Nancie Hays. Violet was no delicate flower. She was twice the size of the slender lawyer and obviously upset.

Nancie wasn’t intimidated by the large woman. The lawyer was barely five feet tall, a hundred pounds, and thirty years old, but tough and adept at handling difficult people. She had faced down – and successfully sued – a slipshod homicide detective and the small South Florida city that employed him. She’d fought to keep an innocent woman out of jail. Now she didn’t back away from Violet.

Nancie was all business, and so was her office.

For her short stories this year (2009), she's had "Death of a Condo Commando" published in Alfred Hitchcock in May and "The Bedroom Door" was selected by blind judging for the Charlaine Harris MWA anthology, "CRIMES BY MOONLIGHT," out in April 2010.

BY DAN BROWN
ABOUT THE BOOK:
In his international blockbusters The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, and The Lost Symbol, Dan Brown masterfully fused history, art, codes, and symbols. In this riveting new thriller, Brown returns to his element and has crafted his highest-stakes novel to date.

In the heart of Italy, Harvard professor of symbology Robert Langdon is drawn into a harrowing world centered on one of history’s most enduring and mysterious literary masterpieces . . . Dante’s Inferno.

Against this backdrop, Langdon battles a chilling adversary and grapples with an ingenious riddle that pulls him into a landscape of classic art, secret passageways, and futuristic science. Drawing from Dante’s dark epic poem, Langdon races to find answers and decide whom to trust . . . before the world is irrevocably altered.

MY THOUGHTS/REVIEW:
Like so many of you, I have waited for Dan Brown's latest book, INFERNO, for so long. In that this book is kept under lock and key until the release date on May 21, I only received my book and audio book after that date. I am taking my time reading it so that I can enjoy it to the fullest. It is so amazing and I am very wrapped up in it. I save my INFERNO reading time for the quiet part of my day, late when all my other work is done so I can just enjoy it to the fullest. With that, I want you to know that I will be posting my review soon and you will be able to get BONUS ENTRIES when you comment on it there as well. Yes, you need to comment here but you also should watch for the review and comment there as well as it increases your chances so much. Many followers forget to do this second part so I will try and have it posted at least two days before the deadline. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I am and watch for my review!

ARE YOU LISTENING? LET'S EXPLORE DIABETES WITH OWLS: A REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

Posted on 9:00 PM by Unknown

WELCOME TO BOOKIN' WITH BINGO'S"
ARE YOU LISTENING? DAY"
I AM EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE TODAY'S
AUDIO BOOK CHOICE....
GIVEAWAY ENDED
LET'S EXPLORE DIABETES
WITH OWLS
ESSAYS, ETC.
BY DAVID SEDARIS
READ BY DAVID SEDARIS
ABOUT THE BOOK:
A guy walks into a bar car and...

From here the story could take many turns. When this guy is David Sedaris, the possibilities are endless, but the result is always the same: he will both delight you with twists of humor and intelligence and leave you deeply moved.

Sedaris remembers his father's dinnertime attire (shirtsleeves and underpants), his first colonoscopy (remarkably pleasant), and the time he considered buying the skeleton of a murdered Pygmy.

With Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls, David Sedaris shows once again why his work has been called "hilarious, elegant, and surprisingly moving" (Washington Post).

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
David Sedaris is a playwright and a regular commentator for National Public Radio. He is also the author of the bestselling Barrel Fever, Naked, Holidays on Ice, Dress Your Family in Corduroy, Denim, When You Are Engulfed in Flames and Me Talk Pretty One Day. He travels extensively though Europe and the United States on lecture tours and lives in France.
PRAISE FOR LET'S EXPLORE DIABETES WITH OWLS:
"Sedaris is a remarkably skilled storyteller and savvy essayist. He weaves together vivid images and sensations into a coherent whole that packs a serious emotional punch....Yes, David Sedaris is really that good. And, based on this latest collection, he's getting only better."---Heather Havrilesky, Los Angeles Times

"Artfully milked embarrassing personal incidents for literary laughs...There are plenty of well-cut gems, including one about an ill-fated adoption of some sea turtles that's both hilarious and touching."
---Thom Geier, Entertainment Weekly

"If you are a David Sedaris fan, any new book from the humorist is cause for celebration. His newest offering, Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls, is no exception. It's quintessential Sedaris....There's always a laugh-out-loud moment just around the corner."
---Craig Wilson, USA Today

"The funniest writer in America....Sedaris is thoughtful and sweet in addition to being slyly hilarious."
---Leigh Haber, Oprah

"David Sedaris has become a signifier of taste and intelligence....Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls was the kind of book that I finished and just immediately wanted to start reading again."---Anna Peele, Esquire

"David Sedaris still talks pretty."
---Kathryn Schulz, New York Magazine

"Fresh....funny, whimsical, unexpected, and never obvious....Who would anticipate that an encounter with an Australian bird could be so damn touching?"
---Sherryl Connelly, New York Daily News

"Ridiculously funny....A find for the reader who appreciates a sense of humor....Sedaris, like the great humorists before him, hits a nerve with his wit, which brings the reader into intimate contact with the human condition."
---John Henry, Fort Worth Star-Telegram

"An acute observer and master of the quick, excoriating takedown, Sedaris claims new territory in this exceptionally gutsy and unnerving collection."
---Donna Seamn, Booklist
"Hilarious....Winning....Sedaris's experiences are an endless source of good material."
---Danielle Trussoni, People

MY THOUGHTS/REVIEW:
For those not familiar with David Sedaris, his latest book, LET’S EXPLORE DIABETES WITH OWLS, is not a medical reference book! Far from it. Rather, Sedaris is back with another incredibly witty commentary on life that to some extent, is a bit more cultured and urbane than ever before. Taking topics from ordinary scenarios in life even including some based on family members (his father is his prime target-as well he should be!), Sedaris uses satire in a way that few others can. His comedic presentations of how hard his father always is on him has given the author so much material as he strives continually to prove his father wrong. More often now it seems that David does prove his father wrong, much to David and his fans delight!

Living in England and France, Sedaris splits his time to writing in those places and then going out on tour to be among people which is what he enjoys so much. I am sure he also gets a lot of his material while on tour as well. I believe he is visiting some 56 cities in the U. S. this time around and will surprise people who come to get their book signed. He likes to take time to talk to people, to observe, and to hear what they have to say. Often, people are flustered at this because that is not the norm with most authors.

In LET’S EXPLORE DIABETES WITH OWLS, David Sedaris mostly spins his tales from his point of view but there are some written as if a teenager is narrating them and you have to keep on your toes lest you be confused. He writes about everything from shopping for a stuffed owl to traditional marriages; from the quality of dental care in France, to healthcare over all. I think David Sedaris is my favorite author to listen to on audio book. Not only does he read them with his “make me laugh” tone of voice, but also because you can skip around as well. And my favorite part of the audio book is that you can listen to them over and over again! I do believe that they are even funnier the more you listen to them. If you have never experienced the joy of David Sedaris, this is a great time to start.
