ARE YOU LISTENING? STRUCK BY LIGHTENING: A PREVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

Posted on 9:00 PM by Unknown

WELCOME TO BOOKIN' WITH BINGO'S"
ARE YOU LISTENING? DAY"
I AM EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE TODAY'S
AUDIO BOOK CHOICE....
GIVEAWAY ENDED
STRUCK BY LIGHTNING
The Carson Phillips Journal
BY CHRIS COLFER
ABOUT THE AUDIO BOOK:

Struck By Lightning: The Carson Phillips Journal follows the story of outcast high school senior Carson Phillips who blackmails the most popular students in his school into contributing to his literary journal to bolster his college application; his goal in life is to get into Northwestern and eventually become the editor of The New Yorker.

At once laugh-out-loud funny, deliciously dark, and remarkably smart, Struck By Lightning unearths the dirt that lies just below the surface of high school.

The film Stuck By Lightning is set to be released by Tribeca Film later this year and features Colfer's own original screenplay. Colfer also stars in the film alongside Allison Janney, Christina Hendricks, Dermot Mulroney, Sarah Hyland, and Polly Bergen.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Chris Colfer is a Golden Globe–winning actor best known for his role as Kurt Hummel on Glee. He was honored as a member of the 2011 TIME 100, Time magazine’s annual list of the one hundred most influential people in the world. The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell is his first novel. Visit my review of that book HERE.

LET'S GET COZY! WHAT A GHOUL WANTS: A PREVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

Posted on 9:00 PM by Unknown

   GIVEAWAY ENDED
WHAT A GHOUL WANTS
A Ghost Hunter Mystery
BY VICTORIA LAURIE
ABOUT THE BOOK:
M. J. Holliday has the unusual ability to talk to the dead. But when it comes to a vengeful ghost and a mysterious drowning, this time she may be in over her head....

THAT SINKING FEELING

Kidwella Castle in northern Wales is rumored to be haunted by a deadly ghost—the Grim Widow, who allegedly drowns unsuspecting guests in the castle’s moat. Not long after M. J. and her crew arrive at the castle to film their ghost-hunting cable TV show, Ghoul Getters, two new victims are added to the Widow’s grisly roster.

Fear ripples through the castle, especially when it’s discovered that the victims may have had help into their watery graves from the land of the living. The local inspector suspects father-son serial killers, but M. J. thinks that theory is all wet. To catch the true culprit she will need to dive deep into the castle’s past and bring some long buried secrets to the surface.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Real-life professional psychic Victoria Laurie draws from her career as a gifted intuitive to create the characters of Abigail Cooper and M.J. Holliday. She lives in beautiful Austin, Texas, with two spoiled Dachshunds, Lilly and Toby, and one opinionated parrot named Doc.

INDISCRETION: A REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

Posted on 9:00 PM by Unknown
GIVEAWAY ENDED
INDISCRETION
 BY CHARLES DUBOW

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Harry and Madeleine Winslow have been blessed with talent, money, and charm. Harry is a National Book Award-winning author on the cusp of greatness. Bonded by deep devotion, they share a love that is both envied and adored.

One weekend at the start of the summer season, Harry and Maddy, who are in their early forties, meet Claire and cannot help but be enchanted by her winsome youth, quiet intelligence, and disarming naivety. Drawn by the Winslows' indescribable magnetism, Claire eagerly falls into their welcoming orbit. But over the course of the summer, reverence transforms into dangerous desire. By Labor Day, it is no longer enough to just be one of their hangers-on.

A story of love, lust, deception, and betrayal told through the omniscient eyes of Maddy's childhood friend Walter, a narrator akin to Nick Carraway in The Great Gatsby, Indiscretion is a juicy, deeply textured novel filled with fascinating true-to-life characters-an irresistibly sensual page-turner that explores having it all, and the consequences of wanting more.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Charles Dubow was born in New York City and spent his summers at his family's house on Georgica Pond in East Hampton. He was educated at Wesleyan University and New York University. He has worked as a roustabout, a lumberjack, a sheepherder in New Zealand, and a congressional aide, and was a founding editor of Forbes.com and later an editor at Businessweek.com. He lives in New York City with his wife, Melinda; children, William and Lally; and Labrador retriever, Luke. This is his first novel.

MY THOUGHTS/REVIEW:
Harry and Madeleine Winslow are a perfect couple from what everyone can tell. He, an author, and Madeleine with her own money, run among the privileged set in New York City, and are envied by many. They exude happiness and share their love of life with their many friends, especially while spending summers in the Hamptons. Madeleine is a gracious and gorgeous hostess whose talent in the kitchen is one she enjoys sharing with friends. Harry’s genius as an author is evidenced not only by his popularity but also by the many prizes for his work.

Enter Claire who readers meet at one of the Winslow’s parties. She is quite taken by both of these fabulous, sociable people and becomes one of their close knit group of friends rather quickly.

Madeleine’s friend, Walter, is also a member of their crowd and is, in fact, the narrator of the story. His narration really adds to the story in a positive way. The story winds around the reader until you feel that you also are part of this group and thus find it hard to dislike any of them, nor to believe what happens as the story goes on. I felt I could see where things were leading but found I actually had no idea that they would go where they went. INDISCRETION held my interest from the first page and was a fun read because of that.

Author Charles Dubow has written a spellbinding narrative that could have been an commonplace tale of adultery but in Dubow’s hands, is much more than that! By using the Madeleine’s friend Walter Gervais as the narrator, the story draws the reader in to be sympathetic to each of the players in one way or another. It is hard to dislike any of them for most of the story. Dubow’s characters are so skillfully developed that they bring out empathy in the reader. I believe that one might not have felt this way had there been some outrageous ending with unreal characters. Instead, Dubrow plays on our emotions and does it with such simple grace that when the ending is realized, it hits the reader that much harder. INDISCRETION is an emotional ride that leaves you satisfied, while also shocked, as well as wanting more.

LET'S GET COZY! A FUNCTION OF MURDER: A PREVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

Posted on 9:00 PM by Unknown

  GIVEAWAY ENDED
A FUNCTION OF MURDER
A Professor Sophie Knowles Mystery
BY ADA MADISON
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Dr. Sophie Knowles is a math professor with a knack for creating complex puzzles that delight her students. But now, at the close of the academic year, she must solve a crime that doesn’t quite add up...

At the math department’s graduation party, Sophie hears heated arguments coming from the graduates about Mayor Graves, the commencement speaker. Not the mayor’s biggest fan, Sophie is happy to escape the drama with an after-hours campus stroll accompanied by her helicopter-piloting boyfriend, Bruce Granville. However, their date is interrupted by the mayor himself—with a knife in his back.
As it turns out, the knife is actually a Henley College letter opener—something that is gifted to every member of the graduating class. Sophie is led to a complicated puzzle of scandal and corruption, and it seems that Mayor Graves is at the apex of it all. When Sophie finds out that the mayor was seeking her help on the day he was murdered, she must use her top-notch logic to crack the puzzle and catch the killer running free on campus..

Camille is on the boards of the California Writers Club and NorCal Sisters in Crime. She’s a member of NorCal Mystery Writers of America and SF Romance Writers of America.

AN EXCERPT FROM A FUNCTION OF MURDER:
CHAPTER ONE What's not to like about graduation ceremonies?

The speeches? Can't get enough of them. The flowers, balloons, parties, screaming coeds? Love them all. Every year I look forward to a long line of students filing by, one by one, switching the tassels on their mortarboards. I get a shiver of delight as I join the procession, my heavy silk and velvet robes weighing me down. What a pleasure it is to walk around the pathways of the campus and onto the great lawn, Purcell's Trumpet Voluntary ringing out through the stifling hot and humid air. I never want it to end.

Not.

Today, as the faculty sat outside on a makeshift stage, our uncomfortable folding chairs seemed to sway with every warm breeze.

Fran, my colleague in the Henley College Mathematics Department, nudged me.

"Professor Knowles, are you bored silly?" she whispered.

"Totally, Professor Emerson," I said. "Are you stuck to your chair?"

************************************************************
"CHAMPIONSHIP SUNDAY"
San Francisco 49ers vs Atlanta Falcons
 NFC Championship Game
The NFC Championship game has the San Francisco 49ers heading to Georgia to face the first time playoff winning Matt Ryan and his Atlanta Falcons.  Matt Ryan, Atlanta QB, is playing well and answered the post season questions about his ability to win. The San Francisco 49ers on the other hand put away the Packers in convincing fashion. The NFL record-setting 181 yards rushing by San Francisco 49ers breakout quarterback Colin “Cap” Kaepernick led the way past Rogers and company.
***************************************

New England Patriots vs Baltimore Ravens
AFC Championship Game
This is a rematch of last season’s A.F.C. championship game, which the Ravens lost when they dropped a pass in the end zone and then missed a field goal that would have sent the game into overtime. The Patriots lost to the Ravens, 31-30, in Week 3 of this season. On Saturday, the Ravens stunned the Broncos in double overtime. The lesson? Don’t underestimate the Ravens’ ability to stay with even the most explosive offenses.
