LET'S GET COZY! THE CAKES OF WRATH: A PREVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

Posted on 9:00 PM by Unknown
 THE CAKES OF WRATH
A Piece of Cake Mystery
BY JACKLYN BRADY
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Can a pastry chef be too sweet?

Rita Lucero, owner of New Orleans cake shop Zydeco Cakes, can’t seem to stop saying “yes.” Even though things at the bakery are busy, Rita finds herself accepting a seat on the local small business alliance—a group full of colorful characters like Chopper Shop owner Moose Hazen and his wife, Destiny, whose personal life is messier than a cake someone left out in the rain.

On the street following a heated alliance meeting, Moose pulls Rita out of the path of a speeding van. Shaken and bruised, Rita notices the next day that her prescribed pain killers are missing. When she discovers Destiny’s body in the couple’s shop, the stolen pill bottle in her lifeless hand only adds another layer to her mysterious death. But getting the frosty NOPD detective to stop focusing on Rita and look for Destiny’s real killer will be anything but a cakewalk...

INCLUDES DELICIOUS RECIPES!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Pseudonym for Sherry Lewis.

The career path toward being an author didn't exactly follow a straight line. Sherry has worked such prestigious jobs as manager of a convenience store, Christmas tree decorator, poinsettia dresser, keyboard player/vocalist in a band, secretary in an insurance office, secretary in a bank, and finally secretary and administrative assistant for an attorney who eventually became a federal judge.
In late 1993, Sherry sold her first three books to Berkley Prime Crime. By early 1994, she'd sold her first book to Harlequin Superromance. CALL ME MOM was published in January 1995, with NO PLACE FOR SECRETS following in July.

In 1996, Sherry gleefully left the court to pursue a full-time writing career. Still as much in love with books as ever, Sherry is currently at work on her third mystery series for Berkley Prime Crime under a pseudonym and a new project for Harlequin. SheĆ¢€™s a long-time member of Romance Writers of America, where she served for four years on the Board of Directors, including one year as President. She's also a member of Sisters in Crime.

AGAINST THE MARK: AUTHOR KAT MARTIN'S BLOG POST AND GIVEAWAY

Posted on 9:00 PM by Unknown
AGAINST THE MARK
The Raines of Wind Canyon Series
BY KAT MARTIN

ABOUT THE BOOK:
The perfect murder is a work of art

In one catastrophic instant, Haley Warren's estranged father was taken from her. She never got the chance to reconnect with him, so now she's doing it the only way she's got left: by proving the explosion that killed him was no accident.

When Tyler Brodie, the provocative and handsome P.I. hired by Haley, discovers that her father was investigating a suspected art theft, he knows his death is no coincidence. After all, tens of millions of dollars' worth of stolen art could motivate a thief to go to any lengths—including getting rid of anyone poking around where they don't belong.

As Haley and Ty get closer to the truth, the truth gets ugly: Did Haley's dad know too much…or was he in on the take? And although Ty's a consummate professional, he's having trouble focusing on the facts of the case, and not the figure of his gorgeous client. The two are determined to get to the bottom of the case, even if it means they die trying.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
New York Times bestselling author Kat Martin is a graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara where she majored in Anthropology and also studied History.   Before she started writing in 1985, Kat was a real estate broker.  During that time she met her husband, L.J. Martin, author of thirty western, non-fiction, historical, and suspense novels.  A resident of Missoula, Montana, Kat and her husband spend their winters in Ventura, California.  She is a currently writing her next Romantic Suspense.

With fifty five novels to her credit and more than fifteen million copies of her books in print, Ms. Martin has been published in twenty-one foreign countries including France, Japan, Greece, Argentina, Russia, Sweden, Turkey, China, and Spain.

EXCERPT FROM AGAINST THE MARK:
“I’ve got another client for you.  Tyler Brodie, I’d like you to meet my grandniece, Haley Warren.  Haley’s out here from Chicago.  Her grandmother was my sister.”

Just to regain a little of his dignity, Ty let his gaze roam over her, starting at the frosted-pink toenails peeking out of strappy high-heeled, open-toed sandals, sliding up a pair of long legs in snug fitting jeans, across that bare midriff with its glittering bellybutton ring over a set of nicely rounded breasts to a pretty face framed by long, softly curling honey blond hair.

She had big blue eyes, and an Angelina Jolie mouth that made him think of dirty sex.  Maybe she read his thoughts for a faint blush rose in her cheeks.

Good.  A little payback only seemed fair.

Besides, she was a real pleasure to look at.  Not beautiful in the classic sense like some of the women he knew, but with those dimples and big blue eyes, she was way beyond cute.

“Nice to meet you, Ms. Warren.”

The smile was gone and she assessed him coolly.  “Aunt Ellie tells me you’re a friend, as well as an investigator.”

“I like to think that’s true.”

“Of course it’s true,” Ellie said.  “That’s why I know we can count on Ty to help us.”

Wariness slid through him.  Ellie had a way of bringing him clients who were nothing but trouble.  “How’s that?”

“Well, you see, three months ago Haley’s father died when his power boat exploded.”

A GUEST BLOG BY KAT MARTIN:
TRAVELIN' AND WRITIN'

Earlier this year, as a gift to myself for completing AGAINST THE MARK, my next Romantic Suspense, out the end of August, my husband and I embarked on a cruise aboard the Silversea’s Silver Wind.

With only a hundred and fifty passengers on our leg of the voyage, the food and service in the ship’s four restaurants was spectacular.  After four days in Athens, we boarded at the port of Piraeus to begin a ten day journey that would take us to several small Greek islands, then a stop in the tiny country of Malta.  From there we would be heading to Sorrento, Sicily, and ending the cruise in Rome.

Athens was amazing, a mix of ancient and modern that is entirely captivating.  Ancient Greek ruins line the sidewalks, in contrast to the cars roaring past at appalling speed.  In the middle of the city, the Acropolis stands guard at the top of a granite mountain, overlooking the sprawling metropolis below.

The seas were calm those first few days.  As we traveled by bus through the Greek countryside, the people were warm and friendly, the ancient historical ruins amazing.  We took pictures of the original Olympic stadium--where the competitors were all male and competed in the nude!  Unfortunately, no female spectators were allowed--where was women’s lib in those days?

My husband fell in love with Malta, a city built entirely of the same golden yellow stone.  At dusk, with the sun reflecting of the walls of the old fortress, it’s quite a sight to see.

In Rome, we rented an apartment in a four-hundred year old building, a place with thick stone walls, hand-hewn beams in the living room, and tile floors through out.  Fortunately, it had been remodeled and had all the modern conveniences.  Located in the heart of the city, the apartment was surrounded by cobbled streets and all the most exclusive shops.

I found the property on the internet, paid the rent directly to the owner, and crossed my fingers the descriptions of the apartment were at least somewhat correct --and that it actually existed.

As much as I’ve traveled, I knew it was a risk.  We got lucky, but best advice is to go through a legitimate travel agency.

Our European trip ended with four days in Paris, my favorite city.  Last year, I was asked to do an interview for a French digital magazine.  The publisher and I stayed in touch, and she arranged a wonderful lunch with a group of Parisian fans--oh, if only I could learn to speak French!

Try as I might, I have meet with no success.

The trip was amazing, but travel is always exhausting.  I was glad to be back home and gearing up for the release of AGAINST THE MARK.  You met Ty Brodie in AGAINST THE NIGHT, when he worked with P.I., John Riggs.  He appeared again with Ben Slocum in AGAINST THE EDGE.

Now it’s time for Ty’s story.  In AGAINST THE MARK, Ty meets Haley Warren, a sexy blonde from Chicago who hires him to help her uncover the truth about her father’s death.  Was the explosion that killed him an accident?  Or was it murder, as her stepmother believes?

Fighting a fierce attraction neither of them wants to feel, they follow a trail of clues that takes them into the art world, where old master paintings sell for tens of millions of dollars--plenty of motive for murder.

Enough to put Ty and Haley in deadly danger.

I hope you’ll watch for AGAINST THE MARK, the ninth book in my AGAINST Series.  And that next year, you’ll look for Ty’s cousins, the Brodie brothers, starting with Dylan Brodie in AGAINST THE WILD.

Tell me one of your favorite cities! Do you like cruises?

Till then happy reading and have a great summer.   Kat

LET'S GET COZY! SUP WITH THE DEVIL: A PREVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

Posted on 9:00 PM by Unknown
 SUP WITH THE DEVIL
An Abagail Adams Mystery
BY BARBARA HAMILTON
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Murder in Colonial America...

1774: Spring brings uncertainty to Boston as the entire city awaits the Crown’s response to the infamous Tea Party. Urged on by the Sons of Liberty—and Abigail’s husband, John—militias form and arm themselves. But when a Harvard Loyalist is murdered, the only side Abigail finds herself on is the side of justice...

After an attempt on the life of her scholarly young nephew Horace, Abigail travels to Harvard to investigate. A mysterious woman had hired Horace to translate some Arabic, only to leave him disoriented and frightened—and at the mercy of her henchmen. But Horace survived—with a tale of pirate treasure...

While Abigail and Horace try to unravel the strange circumstances, one of his fellow students—a young man loyal to the King—is murdered. And though the Sons of Liberty are desperate to find the rumored gold, Abigail is more interested in the truth. For the Devil’s treasure comes with a curse that could bring down anyone, regardless of where their allegiance lies...

ARE YOU LISTENING? THE LAST KISS GOODBYE: A REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY

Posted on 9:00 PM by Unknown

WELCOME TO BOOKIN' WITH BINGO'S"
ARE YOU LISTENING? DAY"
I AM EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE TODAY'S
AUDIO BOOK CHOICE....
THE LAST GOODBYE
Read by Ann Marie Lee
BY KAREN ROBARDS
ABOUT THE BOOK:
When New York Times bestselling author Karen Robards brought her irresistible brand of hot passion and chilling suspense to the paranormal romance scene with The Last Victim, it was just the beginning. Now her all-new series cranks up the deadly danger and intense desire to the next level, as sexy serial killer hunter Charlotte Stone returns to action in her thrilling second adventure.

THE LAST KISS GOODBYE

Dr. Charlotte “Charlie” Stone has dedicated her career as a psychiatrist to exploring the darkest territory of all: the hearts and minds of serial killers. It’s a job she’s uniquely suited for, thanks to the secret talent that gives her an uncanny edge—Charlie can see dead people, whose tormented spirits cry out to her for the justice only she can provide. This blessing—or curse—gives Charlie the power to hunt down and catch madmen and murderers. It’s also turned her love life upside down by drawing her into a hopelessly passionate relationship with the lingering ghost of charismatic bad boy Michael Garland.

But there’s little time for romance with her supernatural suitor when murder comes pounding at Charlie’s door in the form of a terrified young woman fleeing a homicidal maniac. Saving her life places Charlie squarely in the cross-hairs of a sadistic predator nicknamed “the Gingerbread Man,” notorious for manipulating his victims like pawns in a deadly chess game. And now the queen this psychopath’s bent on capturing is Charlie. Refusal to play will only put more innocent lives in danger. Matching wits with this cunningly twisted opponent will require all of Charlie’s training and expert skills. But even with her devilish “guardian angel”—not to mention her favorite flesh-and-blood Fed, Tony Bartoli—watching her beautiful back, the Gingerbread Man’s horrifying grin might be the last thing Charlie ever sees.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Karen Robards is the author of 40 books and one novella. She is the mother of 3 boys (25, 19, and 14) and lives in her hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. A regular on the New York Times, USA Today and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists, among others, she published her first novel at age 24. "I read, I write, and I chauffeur children," she says with a laugh. "That's my life.

MY THOUGHTS/REVIEW:
Karen Robards normally writes books I enjoy. But, THE LAST KISS GOODBYE was one I have to be honest about…I just didn’t get it. I admit that I didn’t read the first book in the series, THE LAST VICTIM, and THE LAST KISS GOODBYE does pick up where the first one ended. However, my not reading the first one wasn’t the problem as Robards spends a lot of time setting the stage and going back to the first story so readers know what is going on. The narrative even explains how the main character, Charlotte Stone, learned as a young girl that she had a remarkable talent to see and speak to the dead. The dead she is able to converse with, as it turns out, are all ones who have died in a violent way.

I assume as a result when Charlotte grew up she decided to become a forensic psychiatrist whose specialty would be working with serial killers. Seems an odd choice at first look but considering she was able to survive an attack by a serial killer who actually killed her best friend, it then becomes clearer as to how her choice was made. So far, this doesn’t seem like that bad a premise but when Charlotte starts to communicate with the ghosts, it becomes a little less plausible. Robards goes on to actually have Charlotte develop a relationship with one serial killer ghost who, of course, claims he is innocent and keeps returning to Charlotte as their relationship grows. This particular ghost, Michael Garland, was in the Marines and wants to prove his innocence and thus the reason he will not continue on to the next “level” after death.

Charlotte is currently working with the FBI on a case involving a serial killer who is known as the Gingerbread Man. Keeping her special “gift” a secret, Charlotte becomes quite involved with the case, working with Tony, a savvy FBI agent, as the killer keeps repeating “Catch Me If You Can” just to aggravate them even more. And to seal the deal of my feelings toward this book, a third party becomes part of a weird love triangle with the ghost named Michael being the third wheel who tries to help with the case of the Gingerbread Man. THE LAST KISS GOODBYE goes on with these three trying to catch the Gingerbread Man. The fact that we never find out if Ghost Michael is innocent or not, leads me to believe he will show up again in the next book in the series.

Sadly, I have to say I won’t be finding out as I won’t be reading it. Perhaps it is this awful summer heat frying my brain but I just couldn’t get into this book at all. It was too far fetched for me and because it added the growth of a romantic relationship between Charlotte and Michael, the ghost, I was just so puzzled that I didn’t really care or want to understand it. I did finish it and there were some good parts that kept you guessing but I am still not sure I cared to guess at some point along the way in THE LAST KISS GOODBYE. I hope that those of you who enjoy this genre will give the book a chance and make your own decision about its merits.
